Welcome to the other half of my life.
The CT office... where I spend far too many hours a week. I figured that since the paper has become such a big part of my life, I might as well have a page about it. Eventually I'll get some pictures up for this page too.
The Campus Times is the on campus newspaper here at the U of R. I spend a good majority of my time working there, and I've found that the darkroom there is also a good place to study. (Yeah, I know, it's a little weird.) Essentially though, that office has become my life.
I'm one of the photo editors for the paper. I started taking photos back in January, somewhat randomly, and I also joined the copy staff. Copy essentially gets to read through every page of the paper and check for errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, meaning and all that junk. It was a lot of fun.
We had copy-groupie-coffee-runs at about 11 pm to get everyone in the office something from the coffeehouse, which is just on the other side of the 1st floor of the commons. Nights at the CT were a lot of fun. The whole building shuts down at about 1 am, so after that, we take the rolly chairs out into the hallways and have chair races.
Last semester, I was basically coerced into being a photo editor, which is a larger time committment, but it was a lot of fun. Being an editor means very very late Wednesday nights. Not as late as most of the sections, but still late enough. 3 in the morning is an average time to be done. Sometimes it pushes 4. But it's fun, and all of the editors get a little crazy when it gets that late.
All in all, the paper is a great experience. I love being in the office, and I love seeing the final product come out on Thursday and knowing that I had a hand in that.
I have a new coeditor now, Marissa, and she's awesome. We get things done fairly early and we work well together. She's a fast learner and fun to be around. I do miss being ridiculous with Dave though... he was the executive photo editor last semester.
So far this year has been good and all of the new staff members are bonding through the usual arguments and sillinous that occurs on production nights. It's going to be a good year for us. Especially when Lewis and Thomas finally get around to trying kill one another...

This is the darkroom. I spent 5 hours or so cleaning it. It's my baby now... |
