I'M GOING TO SEE THEM MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Victor, Bela, Futureman

I decided that I had to dedicate a page to the Flecktones, because first, they're incredible, and second, they have Victor Wooten. Vic is the man!

Back to the Flecktones for now though. I've been listening to them for a few years, and I went home last year during my fall semester to see them in Portland. They were unbelievable!

That picture below of Jeff Coffin playing two saxes at once is no joke... it's pretty amazing to hear.

The band includes Bela Fleck (the first person I can think of who still has a mullet...) on banjo, Vic on bass, his brother, Future Man, on the drumitar, and Jeff Coffin on sax(es).

The Flecktones music includes roots of jazz and funk, and sometimes some tones of bluegrass. It's very difficult to classify, but the their recordings are usually found in the jazz section of music stores.

Victor with his 3 yin-yang basses... his double cd solo album is entitled "Yin-yang" and has some very amazing work on it which represented a step in a different direction for his solo work at the time.

Victor Wooten is the man when it comes to bass playing. He has amazing skill and technique and his playing blows my mind sometimes. It's incredible what he can play on a 4 string bass.

He also has great musical ideas. On both the Flecktones albums and his solo albums, he demonstrates his ability to play the music, not just streams of notes. Very difficult to explain, but well worth listening to.

I currently have 3 of his solo albums, and I'd like to get his newest album, "Live in America" sometime soon.

If you haven't heard his music... download it, borrow it, buy it or whatever. Just check it out.
